Hi! My name is Rita Antoinette Borg and
welcome to my website.
My two favourite words in the whole English
Language are:
Creativity and Imagination.
Why? Well, everyone is special but these
two things make me feel ever so special.
I love to create and I love to imagine, in fact one of my most favorite
thing to do is dream. Let me welcome you to my little world of creativity
and imagination.
Do you use your creativity and imagination to write stories? Well
you should, because I do and it really is fun!
It all started way back when I was born in Mtarfa, Malta, to Maltese
parents in a British hospital but my biggest adventure happened
to me when I was four years old, I got on a big plane which took
me to the land of the American dream, to the United States of America.
There I lived until I was about 15 years of age when my family and
I returned to Malta.
As
a kid, I often imagined outrageous adventures and knew I wanted
to write since the age of nine. I wrote the wildest compositions,
which my teachers thought I hadn't actually wrote myself. Yet it
truly was me who wrote about the hungry giant that ate all the
townspeople or the little girl who could talk to animals or the
scary fire escape route that was inhabited by evil witches and pirates
or the story of me predicting a horrible future without animals.
Another thing I picked up along the way
was the gift of Storytelling. I owe this to the priests and sisters
of my Catholic school, Blessed Sacrament, who saw within a very
tiny little girl (me) the power to read a story and make it memorable
to the audience. They used to pick me up and sit me down on their
teacher's desk and taught me how to pronounce and give character
to each word I read. I became good enough for the priests to chose me to recite
the first liturgy of the weekly Sunday mass for children.
These seeds of knowledge have flourished
to what I do today. Other than being a busy mother of three
children of my own, I am a Storyteller and an author of short stories and
children's books. Believe me I wouldn't have it any other way because
I get to spend my time with the best people on earth: children.
Though I have been writing since the age
of nine, I began writing professionally at thirty years of age,
mainly in newspapers and magazines. Then I decided to venture
into children's literature and have written three books, both in a
bilingual format of English and Maltese. These are:
I hope my imagination and creativity will
spring up more stories for children to read in the future.
